About
NRK Karate Kids Karate Class includes Kids Karate training, traditional Shorin Ryu Karate, Ryukyu Kobudo (ancient Okinawan weaponry), practical self defense, Okinawan weaponry, and Olympic sport karate. All training is rooted in practical self defense and self preservation principles, and every class begins with a combination of interval training, aerobic and anaerobic exercises, strength and agility training, and stretching. The class uses a blend of 70% structure and 30% play and is described as high on discipline and high on fun.
• Ages: 6–9 years old
• Schedule: Classes meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings and on Saturday mornings.
• Price: Affordable, month to month programs available
Kids Karate (Ages 6–9) is designed to help the young karate student develop the mental and physical acumen necessary for a life of Karate training. Students develop basic self defense skills, balance, physical strength, coordination and focus. NRK Karate teaches traditional Shorin Ryu Karate directly from Okinawa, Japan, and traditional Ryukyu Kobudo as part of its standard training program. NRK Karate student athletes travel to compete and win amongst elite karate competitors in the world, and the average student has been at NRK Karate for more than five years. NRK Karate offers flexible training schedules and payment programs and is proud to be San Marcos's only US Olympic Committee recognized dojo.
The name NRK Karate stands for NINTAI RYOKU-KAN, which translates to "the house of the perseverance." Karate-Do translates as "the way of the empty hand." The black ring in the logo represents the black belt and its circular form represents that black belt is just the beginning. The red and white colors represent Okinawa, the birthplace of Karate, and the Kanji along the bottom of the logo reads Shuri-te, the name of the original style of karate that their system is a direct descendant of.
Parent testimonials describe NRK Karate as a family, another home, and more than a dojo, with multiple parents and children training together and noting heartfelt teaching, philosophy, and life lessons. Parents report training there for multiple years, with children learning kata, making friends, and learning for life, and describe the environment as supportive and allowing students to learn at their own speed.
