San Diego Hula Academy offers classes in hula, Tahitian dance, and ‘ukulele. Students can learn hula kahiko (ancient hula), hula ‘auana (modern hula), and ‘oli, which includes Hawaiian language and chant. The program also teaches ‘Ori Tahiti, which encompasses traditional dances from the island of Tahiti and is known for both vigorous and slow, graceful motions.

San Diego Hula Academy is a hula hālau based in San Diego that offers a comprehensive hula, Tahitian, and ‘ukulele curriculum for students ages three and up. Each dancer learns hula protocol, ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i and ‘oli, basic steps, and choreography. Classes are suitable for all levels for adults and children, and the program offers a complimentary class. The academy was created as a haven to learn, foster friendships, and make lifelong memories, and it focuses on supporting students to learn and perform in a positive environment to enrich, inspire, and transform their lives.
San Diego Hula Academy is led by Lehua Frank Kawaikapuokalani Hewett (Loea Hula), Ula Hewett (Kumu Hula), Kawena Garuba (Kumu Hula/Founder), and ‘Aulani Murphy (Ra’atira/Tahitian Instructor). The program is rooted in a rich legacy of tradition and is committed to preserving tradition and culture through hula, ‘oli, and mo‘olelo for future generations.
