Homework Central offers after-school tutoring and homework assistance that includes both individualized and group tutoring in reading, mathematics, and English. Students complete assigned work online and take part in enriching science, art, music, and other enrichment activities. The program also holds Family Night events that include a healthy dinner, enrichment projects, bilingual presentations on community resources and groups, and themed activities focused on literacy, music, and community-building.

• Price: HWC provides after-school tutoring, homework assistance, and family support free of charge.
Homework Central serves disadvantaged elementary school students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade in the San Mateo-Foster City School District who are identified as needing additional support outside of school, and serves more than 120 children each school year, primarily English-language learners from economically disadvantaged households. Homework Central operates at school sites staffed by volunteers, high school students, and a Site Coordinator. Since 1998 Homework Central has stepped in to fill that academic gap. Homework Central’s mission is to empower students facing structural inequities through academic assistance, family engagement, and community resources. Homework Central serves students in the San Mateo-Foster City School District and partners with local schools, and Family Nights include community members and bilingual presentations on community resources and groups. One Homework Central student alum shared, “I love Homework Central because everyone is so nice and passionate and they help with homework and you can play games when you’re done and get to play outside and have so much fun.”
