About

Team12Sports / Peninsula Gold AAU Basketball offers AAU basketball teams along with a 3X3 Skills League, training camps, sports team trips, and baseball. Peninsula Gold is the AAU basketball program for Team12Sports and participates in both regional and national basketball competition. The program runs fall, spring, and summer seasons and includes skill training options throughout the season as well as make up opportunities for missed practices.

• Ages: 7–17 years old
• Schedule: The spring season starts in early March and goes through early June, with practices twice a week and make up practice every Friday; tryouts and evaluations are held in mid-August for the fall season and early March for the spring season.

Team12Sports was started in 2012 by Scott Cornelius. The coaching staff includes 15 coaches with years of high school coaching experience and 8 coaches who have played at the collegiate level. Peninsula Gold is an official Under Armour program participating in the invite-only UA Future circuit for 11U–14U and the UA Rise circuit for 15U, 16U, and 17U, with UA Rise boys teams competing nationally at NCAA certified events and UA Future boys and girls middle school teams competing against top programs in the country. Regional teams at every grade level compete in top local tournaments with opportunities for travel, and previous seasons have included tournaments in Sacramento, Reno, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. The program states that it believes in kids playing multiple sports and offers flexibility for participation in different sports, and it summarizes its approach with three words: development, competitive, and positive.

The stated mission of Team12Sports is “More Than A Game,” with an emphasis on creating an environment that is both challenging and encouraging and on skills that extend beyond the court, including resilience, professionalism, and humility. The program describes its cultural and character values as “The Gold Standard,” which includes being for each other, bringing their best every day, viewing excellence as more about effort than results, treating sports as a gift and playing with thankfulness, staying humble while working on weaknesses, playing with contagious passion, and committing to making teammates better. An international cultural and sports trip is available to players in the summer after their 6th or 7th grade season.

Testimonials describe founder and coach Scott Cornelius as a leader who creates a fun culture and brings kids from different backgrounds together, as a coach who offers consistent ideas, support, and positive criticism while serving as a role model, and as a mentor with expertise and common sense who makes learning automatic and fun.
