Instruction at All American Black Belt Academy is offered by Sensei Johanna Abello, a 3rd degree black belt, and William Fuentes, a 5th degree black belt. Shihan Hultin opened his karate school in Dublin in 1980 and established the United Karate Federation of California in 1990. The Academy states that it believes in and teaches martial arts with traditional values of respect, self-discipline, humility, and dedication to excellence, and that it uses holistic methods to teach skills with an emphasis on health and fitness wellness.

Shihan Hultin began karate training in 1966 in Philadelphia, earned a brown belt in Allen Steen’s Tae Kwon Do school in 1971, and a black belt in 1975. He moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1979, opened his karate school in 1980, and became a World Karate Federation judge at the World Championship in Maastricht, Netherlands in 1984, continuing as an official in fifteen other international events. When the USA National Karate Federation was established in 1994, he was elected the first Western Regional Vice President and served on the Referee Council.

The Academy notes that it is currently the only Hayashi ha Shitoryu dojo in California registered with the Japan Headquarters. It also offers programs through the San Ramon and Pleasant Hill Community Center, and Shihan developed karate programs with the local YMCA and the San Ramon City Recreation Department. The United Karate Federation of California is described as a California non-profit corporation created to benefit Dublin elementary school children with low-cost karate and martial arts classes and to give financial aid to karate athletes in Northern California. Families are invited to drop in for a free introductory class.
