About
Tri-Valley Basketball offers training, competition, and summer camp sessions where players train and compete through structured games and age-appropriate drills. Elementary-age sessions introduce core basketball skills like dribbling, passing, shooting, and footwork. The program also includes a middle school program with advanced fundamentals, offensive and defensive concepts, and real game scenarios, as well as sessions for high school and post-grad players that focus on college-level skill development, position-specific work, strength and conditioning, and leadership on and off the court.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
Tri-Valley Basketball includes Summer Camp Session 1 and Summer Camp Session 2 as part of its offerings.
Tri-Valley Basketball is a premier AAU club led by Directors and Head Coaches Ken Williams and Mike Hansen, who bring over 50 years of combined coaching experience and are connected to the Dougherty Valley High School basketball program in San Ramon, California. Ken Williams has over 30 years of coaching experience, with more than 20 years in high school athletics, and has been on the Dougherty Valley High School varsity coaching staff for the past 12 years, during which the program has won over 200 games, multiple league championships, and several North Coast Section (NCS) titles, along with league titles, league tournament championships, sectional championships, and state tournament appearances over his career. Mike Hansen is the head basketball coach for the Dougherty Valley High School Wildcats and has coached at Ygnacio Valley High School, California State University East Bay, Chabot Junior College, and in China for the Jilin Northeast Tigers, and he led Dougherty Valley to its first-ever CIF North Coast Section Open Division title. Under Coach Hansen’s leadership, Dougherty Valley achieved its first CIF North Coast Section Open Division title, and he was named the 2023 Cal-Hi Sports State Coach of the Year and the 2024 Bay Area boys' basketball Coach of the Year.
The program’s stated mission is to offer a clear, structured path to success focused on positive coaching, skill development, and ensuring every athlete enjoys the game, with a coaching philosophy that emphasizes mentorship, mindset, and building character. Tri-Valley Basketball describes its approach as covering beginner basics through college prep, with age-based programs for elementary, middle school, high school, and post-grad players, and a focus on foundation, confidence, and fun for elementary-age players, skill development and game IQ for middle school players, and elite prep, exposure, and results for high school and post-grad players.
Parent and player testimonials describe outcomes such as a 5th grader becoming more confident and focused and dreaming of playing in college, a middle school athlete playing smarter and stronger than older players by 8th grade, and a former player crediting intense training with helping them get recruited to a Division I school. Other testimonials state that Tri-Valley teaches accountability, work ethic, and how to compete with purpose, that it is the reason a current high school player made a varsity team and is pursuing a scholarship, and that coaches focus on mindset, leadership, and skills, with one parent calling it the best investment they have made in their 7th grader’s future.
