About
Orange County Council Scouting Camps offers a wide range of activities, including team building exercises, hands-on STEM activities, zipline, rock wall, archery, bb gun targets, swimming pool time, hiking, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, and canoeing. Campers take part in team competitions, relay races, scavenger hunts, wacky games on the water, kayak basketball, and an ultimate frisbee water edition. The program also includes Squid Dissection & Art Lab, Shark Dissection Lab, Slime Lab, water bottle rockets, chemical reaction activities, drone flying, Snap Ships Build & Target Challenge, dock fishing, marine exploration with underwater cameras, wacky science, arts and craft projects, building and racing a mini-sailboat, a mini car build and track race competition with Lego bricks, and Bubble Mania.

For more than 100 years, Scouting in Orange County has helped build future leaders by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun and adventure in the outdoors. Scouting in Orange County serves more than 20,000 youth and is divided into seven geographical districts made up of local Cub Scout Packs, Scouts BSA Troops, Venturing Crews, and Exploring Posts that are chartered to local schools, religious organizations, or community centers. Scouting activities happen all year-long in local neighborhoods or at one of the scout camps, and Cub Scouts at these camps complete Tiger “Floats & Boats” and Wolf “Spirit of the Water.”
The Orange County Council Scouting Camps leadership team includes Russell Etzenhouser – Scout Executive | President; Denovan Lino – Deputy Scout Executive | Chief Operating Officer; Marie Becvar – Director of Outdoor Adventures; James Long-Lerno – Director of Camp – Newport Sea Base; Jack Nguyen – Sr. Program Director – Newport Sea Base; Lacey Shelton – Rowing Director – Newport Sea Base; Andrew Gregory – Sr. Camping Director – Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center; Cody Wright – Program Director – Oso Lake, IROEC summer camp; Anna Hennessy – Program Director, Academics – Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center; Madison Wilkens – Ranch Director – Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center; Trevor Beckwith – STEM Director – Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center; and Nick Beckwith – Outdoor Skills/Range & Target Activities – Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center, along with additional development, marketing, guest services, kitchen, ranger, administrative, and shop staff. The program features a STEM Lab Series that rotates every 3 weeks between the Shark Dissection Lab, Slime Lab, and the Snap Ships Build & Target Challenge, and another STEM Lab Series that rotates every 3 weeks between the Squid Dissection & Art Lab, Bubble Mania, and the Slime Lab. The camps also offer SUPSQUATCH, a 10 person stand up paddle board, GIANT 10 kid-sized paddle boards, and activities at the waterfront and beaches with no swimming expertise required.
