Beyond Blindness, formerly Blind Children’s Learning Center, empowers children with visual impairments and other disabilities to achieve their fullest potential. The organization was founded in 1962 by six blind individuals and has been guiding families through their Journey of Care® since 1962, celebrating 60 years. Programs guide children ages 0–22 and their families through a Journey of Care® integrated approach with different entry points, including home-based and center-based Early Intervention services, itinerant education support within public school classrooms with a dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), inclusive family events, transitional and individualized education plan (IEP) support, a low vision clinic, a resource center, and Family Support services for parents, grandparents, siblings, and children. Beyond Blindness serves more than 300 children with visual impairments and other disabilities and their families and is a leading accredited organization for children with visual impairments and other disabilities in Orange County, licensed by the Department of Social Services. Families in the program have access to a licensed social worker, and the organization follows a people-first approach with values of family, connection, impact, inclusion, stewardship, and optimism. Next Steps Camp is described as an amazing experience and was created as a way for a group of participants, and Beyond Blindness raised $56,531 from 87 donors through the Empowering Possibilities online fundraiser.
