About
A Thousand Mornings Forest School is an entirely outdoor, all-weather program where children play, eat, dance, climb, paint, rest, write, build, and learn. Children explore the flora and fauna, forge unfamiliar trails, explore fallen tree stumps, paint with crushed berries, track animals, and practice storytelling. The program follows an emergent curriculum in which children's queries and play drive the direction of learning, and teachers are partners in discovery rather than keepers of knowledge.
• Schedule: Meets 5 days a week from 8:30–12:30
The program is inspired by the Scandinavian model established in the 1950s and focuses on whole-child development, with socio-emotional, cognitive, and physical development all described as equally important. It is intentionally small and mixed-age. Its mission is to provide children with ample, unstructured time in nature both for its instrumental part in their evolution into capable, whole people and also for the pure joy of it all. Families can join the mailing list for updates on program adventures, invitations to community-based outdoor activities, and information about the program. Dedicated time for email communication is typically Thursday mornings, or sometimes Wednesday, and emails receive a response within a week in a way that prioritizes thoughtful, personal attention over speed in communications.
