Sunshine Swim Lessons was developed by founder Talia, who participated in swim team, served as her high school swim captain, and competed in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) championship swim meet. She lifeguarded for the City of Palmdale after high school, trained with the Red Cross swim lesson program, and taught large group swim lessons for nearly 40 hours a week. She later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Global Studies from the University of California Santa Barbara, followed by a Master’s in Education and a California Teaching Credential, and she draws on her public school teaching experience in her swim teaching. The program’s mission is to provide fun and educational swim lessons to meet the needs of all swimmers, with water safety as the first goal.

The indoor pool used by Sunshine Swim Lessons is heated to 92 degrees and is used for young beginners learning foundational water safety, floating skills, and early stroke work. The program follows a specific progression and swim lesson outline, and lessons are tailored to meet specific family goals for swimmers of all ability levels. The indoor pool has a closed deck policy, with parents watching from outside the room or waiting in their car while the door remains open. Residential concierge lessons take place in families’ heated backyard pools and are described as a convenient choice for families who value privacy and comfort.

The Water Babies class is designed for ages 5 months to 17 months, and a trusted adult must be in the water with the student. The Water Babies schedule includes an 8-week session on Mondays and/or Thursdays starting the last week of August, with the first class from 9:45–10:10, ten minutes of free swim from 10:10–10:20, and a second class from 10:20–10:45.

Sunshine Swim Lessons partners with Hillside House, a facility for adults with disabilities, and notes that this partnership allows families to enjoy aquatic activities in the Santa Barbara area. Students often leave their lessons saying, “already? I want to swim more!” The program information lists a copyright date of 2022 for Sunshine Swim Lessons.
