About

Art Explorers is an art-enrichment program where students work in drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, mixed media, and print-making. Throughout the year, students learn art fundamentals using artist-quality media such as Prisma Illustration Markers, charcoal, oil and soft pastels, polymer clay, ArtStix, colored pencil, Scratch-Art, AquaStik, paint, and watercolor. Projects do not repeat from session to session, and classes include fun mental exercises that focus on creative thinking.

• Ages: 5–18 years old

Art Explorers is locally owned with over 25 years of bringing art to students of all ages. The program’s mission is to enhance visual art skills and build each child’s self-confidence. Classes are limited to 18 students, and students work on a variety of surfaces including archival or exotic paper, canvas, metal foil, tile, wood, and many recycled objects. Some projects are completely open-ended so that students illustrate their own ideas, and every project is kid-tested. Art Explorers provides all artist-quality supplies, with optional t-shirts or aprons available for purchase.

The Art Explorers team has over 25 years of art education experience, advanced degrees, teaching experience, curriculum development, and experience running afterschool programs and camps and working with students from age 3 through adults. Art Explorers teachers include teaching artists and current or future teachers, and all instructors go through comprehensive training on the Art Explorers teaching process. All instructors are fingerprinted and cleared through the California Department of Justice, and the program states that it does not touch a child’s work. Art Explorers serves the areas of Santa Barbara, Goleta, Montecito, and Carpinteria, offering classes, parties, and events to artists of all ages, and currently serves the Santa Barbara, Goleta, Montecito Union, Cold Spring, and Carpinteria School Districts. The program offers new camp themes and previously popular camp themes every year and describes its environment as safe and secure for students to experiment, problem solve, build skills, and produce art creations.
