About
Wilson Swimming offers private swimming lessons that use games, toys, and age-appropriate activities to teach and practice each skill. Lessons build from basic breath control, including for babies, through endurance and stroke technique, and are taught in a relaxed, home-style pool setting with warm water.
• Ages: 0–12 years old
• Schedule: Lessons available Monday–Friday in many time slots; each lesson is 30 minutes long
Wilson Swimming has been teaching children to love the water for over 30 years. It is a family-run swimming lesson program developed together with three grown children who are all aquatic specialists and educators. The instructors and counselors are accomplished swimmers, experienced teachers, and are chosen because they love kids. The program emphasizes building confidence, overcoming fears, learning to love the water, and eventually stroke technique, while focusing on swimming lessons being fun, safe, and flexible. The staff has experience working with children who have special needs. Instructors use innovative games and age-appropriate toys to reach teaching goals and are always inventing new games to let swimmers be creative and keep lessons interesting. The pool temperature and chemicals are personally monitored and adjusted. The program’s mission states that, living in Santa Barbara with water everywhere, learning to swim is mandatory, and it is committed to helping kids learn to love swimming lessons while having a safe and healthy respect for water.
