Momentum Dance Company was founded 12 years ago by professional dancer, educator, and choreographer Betsy Woyach. It is described as a boutique dance studio and the home of a seven-time national award winning competitive company, and is noted as the first competitive dance company in Santa Barbara. The program offers intimate sized classes that focus on each dancer’s strengths and goals, and every dancer is worked with individually in their dance training. Its recreational program is based on high quality dance education, and its award winning Competitive Company is an optional part of the MDC program.
Betsy Woyach’s stated goal in creating Momentum Dance Company is to inspire dancers in Santa Barbara to reach new levels in their dancing while leading with love and a passion for dance. The culture at MDC is described as full of fun, energy, and belonging, and dancers are taught to set goals, empower themselves, and know their self worth and value inside and outside the studio. Company members are described as cultivating characteristics such as teamwork, goal setting, commitment, and dedication, and competitions are described as providing dancers with constructive criticism and a fresh perspective on dancing. Momentum has been described as a home away from home and a safe haven for early artists and trained dancers from Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, and Goleta.
The Season Twelve calendar includes an online audition form deadline on Monday, August 11, followed by an Audition Prep Camp for dancers ages 7 and up from August 11–15 starting at 10:00 am.
