Momentum Dance Company offers dance training through both a competitive dance company and a recreational dance program. Dancers can participate in jazz dance and attend competitions as part of the program’s activities. Classes are held in a boutique dance studio setting.
Momentum Dance Company was founded 12 years ago by professional dancer, educator and choreographer Betsy Woyach, who continues to lead the program. Betsy Woyach’s stated goal in creating Momentum Dance Company was to inspire dancers in Santa Barbara to reach new levels in their dancing while leading with love and a passion for dance. The studio is described as more than a dance studio and as a home away from home, with a culture full of fun, energy and belonging.
The program is home to a seven time national award winning competitive company and is known for its award winning Competitive Company. It is recognized as the first competitive dance company in Santa Barbara and includes an optional Competitive Company component as part of the MDC family. Competitions are described as providing dancers with constructive criticism and pointing out areas dancers can improve upon.
Momentum Dance Company offers intimate sized classes that focus on each dancer’s strengths and goals, and every dancer is worked with individually to help them achieve success in their dance training. The recreational program is based on what the studio describes as the highest quality dance education. Company members are described as cultivating characteristics such as team work, goal setting, commitment and dedication.
Momentum has become a place for early artists and hard working trained dancers from Santa Barbara, Carpinteria and Goleta. The studio states that it teaches dancers to set goals, empower themselves and know their self worth and value inside and out of the studio walls. The program welcomes families with open arms and invites them to try a class and “Join the Circle.”
