The Research Mentorship Program is a competitive summer program that engages qualified, high-achieving high school students from all over the world in interdisciplinary, hands-on, university-level research. Students take part in the GRIT talks lecture series, which connects them to members of the UC Santa Barbara research community as they present their ground-breaking research and innovative technology. Students choose a research project from a long list of disciplines offered by the program each year and are immersed in university life alongside equally ambitious and curious peers.

• Schedule: Program Dates: June 15 – July 31, 2026
Students in the Research Mentorship Program are paired with a mentor who is a graduate student, postdoc, or faculty member. Through this mentorship and their research projects, students learn about research techniques, gain insight into professional research-based opportunities, and mature their academic goals. The Office of Summer Sessions, which runs the program, offers credit-bearing summer study to support students in meeting or exceeding their individualized academic goals. Admission decisions for the Research Mentorship Program are made on a rolling basis. Summertime activities connected to the program extend beyond the classroom through the Culture and Community Program, which welcomes the campus and broader Santa Barbara communities to films, performances, plays, and events.
