Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, which hosts Seeding the Future Summer Camp at the Garden, was established in 1926 as the first botanic garden to focus exclusively on native plants. Its mission states that it has dedicated a century of work to better understand the relationship between plants and people. The Garden notes that ages five to 12 can choose from a variety of programs with themes centered on nature connection, native plant conservation, or outdoor discovery, and that campers experience the wonders found within California’s habitats while learning what makes this home unique and worthy of protection.
Santa Barbara Botanic Garden was recognized as the 2026 California Nonprofit of the Year. On May 12, 2026, the Garden partnered with Channel Islands Restoration and University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) to host its first Goldspotted Oak Borer Blitz at San Marcos Foothills Preserve.
One visitor described the Garden as a “beautiful gem of a Botanical Garden nestled on 78 acres in Mission Canyon” with “miles of hiking and walking trails” and “native California Plants.” Another visitor called it “inspirational” with “sustainable gardens with walkable paths, friendly staff, and interesting exhibits.” A third visitor said, “There’s no more perfect playground than nature, and this garden screams to youngsters and oldsters alike, to come wander, come play, come learn, come bask in all that there is here to ENJOY!”
