About

Santa Barbara Volleyball Club offers youth and juniors club volleyball for girls and boys, with a focus on competitive club volleyball. The program trains performance athletes and prepares them for high school volleyball and volleyball at the collegiate level. It operates as a youth and juniors club volleyball organization that has serviced thousands of athletes, parents, and families since its inception.

Santa Barbara Volleyball Club was established in 1994 and has been bringing quality coaching, training, and competitive club volleyball for more than thirty years. The club includes both a Boys Division and a Girls Division, each with its own Director, and is based in Santa Barbara, CA. It has a partnership with the Los Angeles Volleyball Academy (LAVA), and its Leadership Team includes global administrators powered by LAVA. The club has a new, dedicated indoor volleyball facility planned to open in 2027, with plans to construct this new indoor volleyball facility on County of Santa Barbara property under a ground lease approved by the Board of Supervisors.

The leadership team includes Nick Vogel (Executive Director of SBVC; Director of Boys Volleyball; Club Director), Keslie Brown (Director of Girls Volleyball), Matt Riley (Director of SBVC; President of the Board of Directors; Executive Director of Santa Barbara Volleyball Club, as quoted), and Court Young (Director of Boys Volleyball over the past year; board member). Nick Vogel brings an exceptional and diverse coaching background, with experience at the highest levels of both men’s and women’s collegiate volleyball, including impactful roles at UCLA and DePaul University, and he has an extensive background in youth club volleyball. SBVC’s mission states that its primary goal is to develop the finest youth and junior athletes and coaches in the region, emphasizing talent, technical mastery, volleyball acumen, competitiveness, work ethic, mental toughness, and passion for the game.

SBVC has been successfully serving the greater Santa Barbara volleyball community and strives to create an environment aligned with Santa Barbara’s description as a tight-knit community built around family, loyalty, dedication, and reliability. Testimonials describe Nick as a rare and elite talent and a welcome addition to the Santa Barbara community, and note that his experience across both the men’s and women’s game and his success in youth development make him uniquely qualified to lead SBVC. Other testimonials state that Court’s leadership and volunteer effort have been instrumental in building a culture that attracts someone of Nick’s caliber and that his role in identifying and helping bring Nick to SBVC was immense. Nick has stated that his family is honored to become part of the Santa Barbara community and the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club at a pivotal moment in its history, and that he has seen warmth and pride surrounding the club and is grateful to the leadership group for their trust.

Additional testimonials state that SBVC is creating something bigger than volleyball alone and describe an opportunity to build a club that provides elite training while becoming something meaningful for young athletes and their families, where athletes are cared for, challenged, fully developed, and grow in leadership, character, integrity, friendship, and belonging. Testimonials about Keslie note that she is widely known for her volleyball expertise and her ability to connect with and inspire young athletes, and that her positive energy, commitment to player development, and genuine care for each athlete have made a lasting impact on the girls in the program.
