Since its creation in 1984, Transition House has provided aid to local homeless families. Transition House is dedicated to the solution of family homelessness in the Santa Barbara community, offering capable and motivated families with children life tools and respectful, non-sectarian residential services designed to alleviate poverty and restore self-sufficiency and dignity. Transition House’s target population is homeless families with children, and households at high risk for homelessness, within the greater Santa Barbara area. The organization includes a Three-Stage Housing Program and a Family Support Center that offers free evening classes such as English as a Second Language, Parenting, Job Club Workshop, Financial Literacy Workshops, and an Open Computer Lab, along with children’s programs for homeless children living at the emergency shelter or past clients depending on need. The Help-a-Kid No-Ball non-event fundraiser directs 100% of donations to programs for more than 275 children who will live in shelter, transitional, and permanent housing in a year.
