The California State Summer School for Mathematics & Science (COSMOS) is held at UC Santa Cruz. The program offers students the chance to work alongside researchers and faculty from the university. Each cluster in the program includes two courses in science, math, or engineering, as well as one course focused on transferable skills.

The program was established by the California State Legislature in 1998 with the mission to inspire future scientists, engineers, and mathematicians to engage in California's business and educational sectors. COSMOS at UC Santa Cruz began in 2000 and is led by Faculty Director Shaowei Chen, Assistant Director Katrina Hermstad, and Operations Coordinator Kameryn Marshall. The instructors are active researchers and educators from various divisions across the UCSC campus. Additionally, the statewide advisory board includes leaders from higher education and industry.
