• Ages: 14–18 years old
• Schedule: 4-week residential summer program

The California State Legislature established COSMOS in 1998 with a mission to motivate the most creative minds of the new generation of prospective scientists, engineers, and mathematicians so that they may actively participate in the business and higher educational sectors of the State of California. UCSC COSMOS started in the year 2000. COSMOS instructors are active researchers and educators from various divisions throughout the UCSC campus, and the statewide advisory board is composed of scientific and technological leaders in higher education and industry, including faculty of the University of California and other public and private universities, as well as CEOs from the corporate sector. The COSMOS program at UC Santa Cruz is located within the UCSC Division of Undergraduate Education and is housed within the Educational Partnership Center. Each summer, a group of COSMOS student volunteers publish a weekly e-newsletter during the program called Macrocosm. The leadership team includes Shaowei Chen as Faculty Director, Katrina Hermstad as Assistant Director, and Kameryn Marshall as Operations Coordinator.
