About
805 Kickboxing offers training in Muay Thai, kickboxing, striking, MMA, Muay Thai kickboxing, and boxing. The program includes both personalized, private 1-on-1 sessions and group training, and it specializes in working with beginners through a proven system and curriculum that can be used for general training or competition. Classes follow a curriculum with a weekly theme, and in each class coaches teach their own style or point of view on that theme, with added base pad work and drills so students practice both hitting and holding pads.
• Schedule: Classes follow a curriculum with weekly themes; options include both group training and private 1-on-1 sessions.
• Price: A free class trial is available.
805 Kickboxing was created in the summer of 2019 by Mario Reyes and Daniel “DJ” Docto Jr., and over the last six years it has evolved into one of the premier training centers for Muay Thai, kickboxing, and striking on the Central Coast. Their fighters train under Head Coach Mario Reyes, and their fight team is described as one of the most active in California, competing in Muay Thai and MMA events across the country. The gym is described as “THE HOME OF SANTA MARIA STYLE MUAY THAI” and as “THE ONLY PURE MUAY THAI GYM SOUTH OF THE BAY AREA AND NORTH OF SANTA BARBARA,” and it has a brand new approximately 2,000 square foot gym with a strength and conditioning area.
As of June 2024, both Mario and DJ are certified as “Khru” under Khru “Doc” Daniel Docto Sr. and his Muay Thai Missions curriculum and certification. Khru Doc is certified under Khru Vut Kamnark and the United World Muay Thai Association, the Khru Association, and the Muay Thai College in Bangkok, Thailand under Ajahn Dej, and 805 Kickboxing’s co-owner and coach DJ is also certified under Khru Vut Kamnark and the UWMTA. All of the coaches have experience in fighting and training Muay Thai, kickboxing, boxing, or MMA, and Khru Doc visits and teaches at 805 Kickboxing, with plans to visit and teach there twice a year.
The program’s heart and purpose as coaches and owners is stated as teaching students not just in Muay Thai, but also in life, and they state that they truly believe everyone can enjoy Muay Thai if they give it a chance. They describe having a family culture in the gym and a heart for the community, and they are very active locally, sponsoring Nipomo Little League, Nipomo Football, Guadalupe Football youth leagues, and many other local events in their town. They also collaborate and work with gyms and instructors across the country to bring what they describe as quality Muay Thai to Nipomo, and they highlight a coach and fighter, Isaiah, who has lost over 130 pounds since he started training with them.
Their fighters include amateur and professional athletes with specific titles and championships, such as Justin Souk (2022 IKF West Coast Classic Novice Division Champion and former Rising Stars Muay Thai 126 lbs Champion), Samuel McGuire (2025 USMTO Class B Champion and future title contender at 118–127 lbs), Nick Shapiro (undefeated heavyweight and 2025 USMTO Class B Champion), and Angel Zamora (3–2 record and current 135 lbs Rising Stars Muay Thai Junior Champion). Their signature logo is described as paying homage to Tapout and the 805.
