Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast offers hands-on STEM activities where members have created their own lava lamps and explored the properties of dry ice. The program also includes summer camp activities, a Power Hour raffle, and a summer pool day.

Since the first doors opened in 1966, Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast has provided programs for local youth. The organization provides safe, educational, and fun programs for more than 1,500 registered youth members and expanded programming in 2023 to include service to children enrolled in TK/Kindergarten programs. It offers safe, inclusive spaces and experiences that empower members’ learning and growth and continually updates and innovates robust safety policies, programs and training for staff and volunteers. Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast oversees a budget of nearly $6 million raised from individual and corporate contributions, foundation and government grants, special events, and program service contracts.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast states that its mission and core values fuel its commitment to promoting safe, positive and inclusive environments for all. It supports all youth and teens – of every race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, ability, socio-economic status, and religion – in reaching their full potential. Afterschool programs are linked to improved academic success, with exposure to programs such as STEAM programs and help with homework, and the program provides healthy daily snacks.

Among members, 85% are Hispanic where Spanish is the predominant language spoken in the home, 70% qualify for English Learner support in school, approximately 33% come from single parent homes, and approximately 90% qualify for free or reduced meal programs during the school year based upon state and federal guidelines. Of all members, 55% are male and 45% are female, with 17% of members being teenagers and 83% ages 6–12.

Through outreach, including sponsored arts and sports programs, Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast benefits an additional 4,000 local children each year and serves members in the communities of Santa Maria, Guadalupe, Atascadero, Paso Robles, Creston and Shandon. Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast and Good Samaritan Shelter partnered together for a fundraiser event, Rock ‘N Roll Bingo.

In testimonials, 57% of alumni say “the club saved my life,” and 86% of all Club Members report that they can stand up for what they think is right, even if their friends disagree.
