About
ACT (All Community Theater) includes theater where participants sing, dance, and act. The program has presented a reading of “The Night Before Christmas” and an online play called “Christmas Choir.” “Christmas Choir” is produced as a Livestream video production featuring ACT actors in their Zoom debuts.
• Ages: 7–18 years old
ACT is dedicated to the whole church community and its neighbors, having a good time. ACT provides a supportive environment where participants can feel free to create and perform. For the production of “Scrooge the Musical,” ACT’s cast and crew ranged in ages from seven to over 90 years old, and actors and crew who were Jews, Muslims, and from different Christian denominations came together to retell Charles Dickens’ story. “Christmas Choir” is directed by Ben Ing, who also leads the Livestream video production, with leadership that includes Dorothy Nichols as Director, Joey Hargrove as children’s director, and Marjorie Poe as music director. ACT has collaborated with Community United Methodist Church of the Pacific Palisades and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Santa Monica, and Upward Bound House lent their community room for rehearsals. The cast and crew donated $1,600 of the proceeds to the Pacific Palisades church to help in its rehabilitation from a fire, over $500 to St. Paul’s for its 100th anniversary, and over $500 for First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica’s 150th celebration. First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica follows Safe Sanctuaries practices for the safety and spiritual growth of children, youth, and adults and has been an active presence in the Westside community and around the world for over 150 years. The purpose of the United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
