The Santa Monica Family YMCA was first incorporated on April 19, 1901, and had its second start at a meeting held June 13, 1927 in the cafeteria of Santa Monica High School. The association is dedicated to serving the Santa Monica, Venice, and surrounding coastal communities, and its impact extends to the San Bernardino National Forest through Camp Big Bear on the shoreline of Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains. The mission of the Santa Monica Family YMCA states that it is dedicated to serving the community by providing programs and services that enrich the quality of the physical, mental, spiritual and social lives of individuals and families, guided by principles of love and respect for all people and embracing diversity in all its forms to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. The leadership team includes Hodge Patterson, IV (Chief Executive Officer), Araceli Alejandre (Chief Operating Officer), Caity King (Mission Advancement Director), Maxine Dixon (Facilities Manager), Gaby Jimenez-Oporto (Membership Director), Kobe Brown (Aquatics Director), Will Logan (Camp Big Bear Director), Christy Corsinita (Early Learning Center Director), and Nico Clifton (Healthy Living Director). Summer Day Camp includes a variety of daily activities tailored to focus on the theme of the week, and activity calendars for each week are sent out the Thursday prior to the camp week so families can plan and pack or dress accordingly. Scholarships are offered so that cost is not a barrier to participating in summer camp, and parents are encouraged to review the Camp Parent Handbook and a document titled “6 KEY QUESTIONS A PARENT SHOULD ASK OF A CAMP.”
