About

Dance Evolution Studio offers classical ballet instruction, recreational dance and fitness classes, summer camps, and meditation and mindfulness practices. The studio emphasizes progressive technique and wellness, with instruction based on a technique designed by Artistic Advisor Miss A, a science-based dance master. The program includes both an Open Division and an Academy Division for dancers at different levels and interests.

• Ages: 1–18 years old
• Schedule: Week long day camps

Dance Evolution Studio includes an Open Division with recreational dance and fitness classes starting at 12 months old through adults, and an Academy Division with a year-long classical ballet curriculum for ages 6–18. Summer camps are week long day camps for ages 5–16. The studio annually presents the holiday classic “The Nutcracker,” as well as family-friendly, abbreviated classical ballets in May of each year, featuring DES student dancers.

The studio was originally founded in September 2005 by Adele Davalos Mitchell as Santa Rosa Dance Theater. The previous Artistic Director was Tamara Statkoun, who retired in 2017 and transferred her vision to Joshua Trader and his wife Marit VanderWolde Trader, who owned and guided the studio through summer of 2024. Joshua and Marit brought on Dr. Christa Christianson as the new Owner and Artistic Director, who has transformed the school into Dance Evolution Studio.

Dance Evolution Studio is owned by a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and all of the faculty are former professional dancers. The owner offers unique wellness interventions and practices, and the instructors are wellness practitioners and enthusiasts for changing the world of dance for the better by fostering wellness. The studio’s mission is to use scientific practice and holistic care to help dancers prevent injuries, train smarter, and perform stronger for longer, healthier, and more fulfilling careers and experiences. The studio aims to create a family focused environment, promote mental, physical, and emotional health, and create a space for all dancers regardless of age, body, or gender.
