About

Santa Rosa Area Music Together offers music classes where children and their parents or caregivers take part in songs, rhythmic rhymes, fingerplays, small- and large-movement activities, instrument play, and other music and movement experiences. Classes include singing, dancing, play, and improvising, such as making up new words to songs, offering movement ideas, making silly sounds, and sharing musical ideas. Groups of 6–12 children and their parents or caregivers meet for 45 minutes in a relaxed, playful, non-performance-oriented classroom setting.

• Ages: 0–5 years old
• Schedule: The Spring Babies Only Class is 10 weeks long and meets on Wednesdays at 12:00 noon, starting April 1.

Santa Rosa Area Music Together offers a Babies Only Class for babies from newborn to 7 months old, with music activities and materials specially designed for parents who want to learn as much as possible about music development in babies. The Spring Babies Only Class uses the Maracas Song Collection. Families receive an information-rich Family Resource Guide, a CD, a digital download code, and an illustrated songbook each session.

The program uses twelve non-sequential song collections, one collection per session. Music is pitched in the right range for children’s voices and includes songs, rhythmic chants, tonal and rhythm patterns, and instrumental play-alongs in a variety of tonalities and meters. Each song collection includes traditional American folk songs and chants and music from many other cultures, with at least one song per collection in a language other than English. Outstanding instrumentalists play instruments such as guitar, bass, flute, violin, keyboards, and percussion.

Fully trained, registered Music Together teachers lead the classes. The curriculum is research-based and is taught in more than 2500 locations around the world, including Santa Rosa, Windsor, and Healdsburg. Santa Rosa Area Music Together is licensed by Music Together LLC, and Music Together is a registered trademark.

The program states that it is passionate about developing strong minds, strengthening family bonds, building community, inspiring creativity, and nurturing self-expression through the power of making music together. Since 1987, Music Together has introduced millions of children, parents, and caregivers to making music. Santa Rosa Area Music Together uses online registration and a make-up scheduler service provided by MainStreetSites.

In community involvement, Santa Rosa Area Music Together raised $900 for the Sonoma County YWCA at an Uncle Gerry Concert on August 22, which was attended by 42 families (125 people). One parent testimonial notes a change from feeling awkward and shy about singing in class to singing throughout the day at home, with family, and in public places, and mentions having melodies ready to sing. Another testimonial states, “I recommend any parent of a young child get involved.”
