About
Sonoma County Family YMCA Youth Programs take place in a main facility that includes two indoor pools, a dry sauna, a fitness center, a group exercise studio, an Activity Center, an outdoor basketball court, men’s and women’s locker rooms, and a Child Watch area. A separate building is used for before and after school childcare, preschool, seasonal camps, youth sports, and teen specialty programs. Aquatic programs are also offered for challenged and disabled adults and children, and all Y membership categories include access to the virtual platform YMCA360.
• Schedule: Weekday facility hours are 5:30 AM–8:30 PM, with the pool closing at 8 PM; weekend facility hours are 8 AM–6 PM, with the pool closing at 5:45 PM. The Membership Center is open on weekdays from 9 AM–5 PM (9 AM–6 PM on Monday and Thursday) and on weekends from 10 AM–2 PM. Childwatch operates on weekdays from 9 AM–1 PM and 3:30 PM–7 PM, and on weekends from 8:30 AM–1 PM.
The Sonoma County Family YMCA states that its mission is to be an inclusive, charitable organization that enriches community through Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. It operates as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit social services organization focused on these three areas. Each summer, the YMCA serves more than 3,000 youth in its programs, regardless of ability to pay, with support from volunteers and public and private donors.
The YMCA in Sonoma County was founded in 1954. In 1972, a program and physical education facility was built near downtown Santa Rosa, and in 1993 a 4,000-square-foot Activity Center was added to expand the original complex. A teaching pool was added in 1995. Between 2003 and 2005, the lobby and Child Watch area were remodeled, a 4,700-square-foot second-story fitness center with new fitness equipment was added, locker room areas were expanded to include Youth & Family areas and a unisex changing room, a members’ lounge with a snack and beverage cart was created, and the natatorium was improved with a new large pool liner.
