The program’s primary mode of communication is French, and it is a French immersion preschool that also teaches French language and culture. Saratoga French Cultural Preschool and kindergarten uses Paul et Suzanne’s Curriculum, which is designed especially for preschool children to develop and facilitate French language acquisition, and the program has acquired permits from the editors of this curriculum. The preschool also uses the Francophone program Brindami la Souris, which focuses on developing social skills and self-control in children 2 to 5 years old, and parents are provided with information about each Brindami workshop and how they can help their children at home.
Children learn and develop through themes such as Insects, Transportation, Various Ethnic Cultures, Seasons, Nature, Sea Creatures, and The Five Senses. The program recognizes all young children as natural artists and includes six learning domains: Appropriating language; Discovering writing; Action and self-expression using the body; Becoming a student; Discovering the world; and Perceiving, feeling, imagining, and creating. Saratoga French Cultural Preschool also offers a Kindergarten in French.
The Saratoga French Cultural Preschool Center opened in January 2015. The leadership team includes Founder and Director Nadia Jorio; Head English Teacher Janice Cadiente; Kindergarten French Teacher Catherine Sam-long; Kindergarten Head-French Teacher Stephanie Than Trong; Head-teacher in the 2 Years and 3 Years Old Classroom Florence Raynon; Head-teacher in the 3 Years and 4 Years Old Classroom Marie-helene Guiraudet; Nursery Assistant Teacher Fatiha Ototess; Assistant-teacher in the 2 Years and 3 Years Old Classroom Khadija Abdelkebir; Head-teacher in the Nursery, Pre-k Classrooms Moncef Kaci; Assistant-teacher Tina Urgarte; Teacher Annie Yi; Teacher Nathalie Dehaudt; Assistant to the Director Claudia Arrigada; Admissions & Enrollment Assistant Anais Seddouki; and Office Administrator Maelys Azevedo. Catherine Sam-long has been teaching for more than twenty years, and Nathalie Dehaudt has over 25 years of experience working with children.
The mission of Saratoga French Cultural Preschool states that its primary goal as educators is to offer quality child care services starting from age 2 through the first grade. The mission also states that the program recognizes each child as unique, values differences, allows for flexibility to meet individual needs, and uses a daily schedule that includes child-initiated play and teacher-directed learning to support physical, social-emotional, cognitive, and artistic abilities. The mission further states that the role of educators in this program is to help each child develop autonomy, self-esteem, and problem-solving skills in a classroom setting, and that the program is child-focused and encourages each child’s natural curiosity. The mission also states that teachers focus mainly on building every child’s self-esteem and confidence through positive reinforcement and rewards, nurturing natural strengths and fostering development in areas where the child needs additional attention.
Parent involvement is described as an essential component of the program. One testimonial from Sophia Fleurimond states that her daughter’s French has improved significantly, that she can now communicate with her French-speaking family members, and that she is also thriving academically. Another testimonial from SEIU Local states that the child was taught French by an excellent teacher, Nadia, who opened a new French preschool in Saratoga, and that the parent was impressed by the location, toys, French books, and games and highly recommends the school.
