Santa Clarita Karate offers kinder karate, beginner karate classes, Judo classes, and opportunities to participate in karate tournaments. The program includes both karate and Judo options for children, with Judo also available for adults. New students are matched with other new students until they are ready to be moved up, and there is more than one instructor on the mats at all times.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: For 5 years old and up, beginner classes are offered Monday through Saturday.
• Price: For 3 to 5 year olds, kinder karate is $119.00 a month. Beginner karate classes are $179.00 a month for two classes a week, and the uniform is $45.00. Judo classes for children and adults are $89.00 a month, and Judo classes are free for karate members.
Santa Clarita Karate states that its goals are to help students develop self confidence, self discipline, self defense, respect, and mental and physical fitness in a safe and fun environment. The organization is celebrating its 44th anniversary. Families can try one class for free, there are no contracts and membership is month to month, and the schedule allows students to choose any two days and change them as needed, with the option to make up a missed class by attending three times in another week.
The leadership team includes Sensei Michel Laurin, a 9th degree black belt, US and Canada Hall of Fame member, 6-time world champion, 3-time All Japan champion, founder of the International Shorinjiryu Shindo, and Canadian Karate Association Hall of Fame member. Sensei Shannon Laurin is a 5th degree black belt, several times national, international, and world champion, and a CSUN business graduate. Sensei Lorna Laurin is a 6th degree black belt and several times international champion. Sensei John Michael Laurin is a 3rd degree black belt, international champion, and CSUN business graduate. The program lists credentials and awards including US and Canada Hall of Fame, Canadian Karate Association Hall of Fame, 6-time world champion, 3-time All Japan champion, and several national, international, and world titles and championships.
