Play Marin offers sports, after-school programs, summer camps, and enrichment opportunities that include basketball, volleyball, track and field, soccer, football, arts and crafts, nature exploration, and movie outings such as Wakanda Forever. The program also organizes clinics in tennis, sailing, swimming, rowing, mountain biking, surfing, golf, and lacrosse, as well as Snow Day with snowboarding and skiing lessons and a trip to see the Black History musical presented by SchoolYard Rap. Play Marin supplies equipment like jerseys and shoes and removes barriers to participation by providing coaches, covering league fees, arranging practices at convenient locations, and organizing inclusive, cross-community teams.

Play Marin’s summer camps include activities such as arts and crafts, sports, and nature exploration, and Camp Made4Me is a week-long sleepaway camp for Bay Area youth in 5th–9th grade that was staffed by nationwide volunteers. Play Marin partners with local schools to offer after-school sports and physical education programs led by experienced coaches and partners with several organizations, including State Bags and East Oakland Youth Development Center for Camp Made4Me. The program’s enrichment activities include the Holiday Heroes event in San Francisco, making crafts, decorating cookies, attending college and professional basketball games, cinematic adventures with movies, and Snow Day with lessons from pro skier Jonny Moseley.
Play Marin was founded in 2008 by Paul Austin, and in January 2020 a newly formed Board of Directors appointed him as the full-time Executive Director. The organization’s stated mission is to level the playing field for children and teenagers in Marin County through the power of play. Play Marin is dedicated to providing recreational and educational opportunities for children and teenagers from diverse backgrounds, with programming that focuses on the whole child, including life skills such as teamwork, leadership, resilience, and positive conflict resolution, and it leverages its visibility to advocate for systemic change and fair distribution of resources.
