According to its stated vision and philosophy, the program serves infants, toddlers, preschool, and school-age children and focuses on students gaining social and self-regulation skills through relationship and play in a developmentally appropriate environment. The program describes its approach as rooted in social constructivist theory, emphasizing secure relationships among children, educators, and families, and using natural environments with neutral tones and calming spaces. It states that it offers culturally responsive, authentic, and relatable learning experiences, and that it conducts ongoing program self-evaluation. The program states that it aims to create spaces that accept all students for who they are and acknowledges the knowledge and experience they bring into their first classrooms, and that it seeks to create positive change in students, their families, and their communities. MPUSD Early Childhood Education Preschool Programs also state a commitment to serving the diverse needs of the community in partnership with families, health providers, and social service agencies.
