Tara Redwood School, which runs Into the Heart of Nature Summer Camp, has been offering non-profit education since 1989 and states that its program was developed over a period of nearly 35 years. The school’s program is described as a blend of Montessori and Creating Compassionate Cultures (CCC) methodologies, with a global curriculum based on an original framework called the 7 Steps to Knowledge, Strength and Compassion. The mission of Tara Redwood School is to offer an education for the heart and mind, with a philosophy based on ancient wisdom, modern neuroscience, and psychology, and a stated belief that all beings have innate goodness and unlimited potential for development. The mission further states a commitment to awakening the wish and confidence for each child to make a positive difference in the world and to engage children to develop strong academic foundations, emotional intelligence, and core values.

Tara Redwood School describes its summer camp educators as highly experienced in outdoor activities and wildlife studies. The program notes an emphasis on responsible environmental practices and being a green school, with daily outdoor immersion, arts, and hands-on environmental studies as integral parts of early development, as well as weekly excursions to the forest for a minimum of 1.5 hours. The school encourages participation from all parents, with several parents contributing monthly participation hours for a variety of school activities. One parent testimonial states, “Thank you for another amazing year at Tara Redwood School. Our girls have grown so much since they first started at the school and we are so proud of who they are becoming thanks to the nurturing and wisdom they are receiving at Tara...” signed by Elisa and Isaac Orona.

Families are asked to send campers having eaten a big healthy breakfast before camp and to pack a large healthy lunch with no candy, plus a separate snack container labeled “SNACK.” Recommended items include a warm layer for morning hikes, shorts and short sleeves for hot afternoons, water play clothes such as a swimsuit or shorts, a towel labeled with the child’s name, a hat, sunscreen applied before leaving the house, and shoes suitable for hiking such as tennis shoes, hiking shoes, or closed-toed sandals like Tevas. Campers are also asked to bring a water bottle labeled with the child’s name, a backpack to carry lunch and a sweater while hiking, and an extra change of clothes including underwear, bottoms, and a shirt in case of a wet accident.
