PopRock Academy was founded on November 11, 2011 by Paul Kwo in the city of Alhambra and has provided professional acting, dance, music, and writing classes since 2011. The academy describes itself as San Gabriel Valley’s premiere performing arts academy, music school, dance school, and acting school, where recreational and professional students grow together in a comprehensive curriculum. Its mission is to help kids, teens, and adults overcome nervousness, gain confidence, and work toward their dreams, including training students and providing resources and knowledge on how to make it as working Hollywood professionals.

All teachers at PopRock Academy are university trained and are also working artists, and the academy states that all its teachers can both do and teach. The program offers both group classes and private instruction in multiple dance styles, as well as a musical theater program that combines dancing with singing and acting. The dance program starts as young as age 3 with movement training to begin coordination training. All students have the opportunity to participate in annual recitals in late spring and at the end of the year, with performances on a professional stage.

PopRock Academy reports that its dance teams have won Judge's Choice and Platinum awards. The academy states that it aims to create genuine, versatile, and well-rounded performing artists and audiences through a comprehensive acting, dance, and music curriculum, and to train genuine musicians with individuality and strong musicianship. It also states that it aims to provide a safe and open environment for music students and lovers, believes that a fun-filled and nurturing environment can foster creative growth, treats all students as professionals with respect, and holds staff accountable for student progress through juries and performance opportunities.

The academy serves residents of Alhambra, San Marino, San Gabriel, South Pasadena, Arcadia, Monterey Park, Temple City, Rosemead, Sierra Madre, Highland Park, Eagle Rock, Atwater Village, Glendale, El Monte, Montebello, Monrovia, Altadena, and the greater Los Angeles area. It assists talented music students who are in financial need to further their music education and participates in local school and community events.
