Temple City Early Learning Academy

Temple City Early Learning Academy offers school year tuition-based preschool for children ages 3 to 5, summer tuition-based sessions, and special education services for eligible children. The school year program follows the Temple City Unified School District academic calendar for 180 school days, and the summer program runs during the summer months and is closed on Fridays during summer except holiday week.

About the provider

Mickie Wong, M.A., is the Education Director for Child Development Programs. The mission statement says TCELA provides a developmentally appropriate, safe, supportive learning environment where a diverse population of children can play, learn, and explore together. It also says the program aims to foster a love for learning, nurture curiosity, encourage creativity, and cultivate a strong sense of community. Preschool instructors are required to be CPR and First Aid certified and hold a current Associate Teacher Permit or higher from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Preschool paraprofessionals are required to be CPR and First Aid certified and have a minimum of 12 Child Development or Early Child Development units.

As of September 2023, families do not have to be residents of Temple City to attend TCELA. Children must be potty-trained for the tuition-based program; Special Day Class students are not required to be potty-trained. Tuition-based preschool follows Title 22 ratio of 1 adult to 12 children. Space is limited and waitlist priority is based on the child's age and form submission date.
