About

Zhang Kung Fu Institute Kids & Youth Program includes training in Traditional Kung Fu, Contemporary Wushu, self-defense, conditioning, injury prevention, Taiji (Taijiquan), Shaolin Kung Fu, Ditangquan, Chaquan, Changquan, and various Shaolin fist styles. Students also practice weapons such as Broadsword (Dao), Double Broadsword, Twin Broadsword, Straight Sword (Jian), Staff (including Gunshu), Spear (Qiang), Nine-Section Whip, whip chains, and Sword, as well as Tai Chi and wrestling.

• Schedule: Opening times Monday–Friday 3:30pm–8:30pm and Saturday 9:00am–7:00pm

The program is led by SiFu Zhang, an international-level coach and judge with more than 20 years of teaching experience, a bachelor’s degree from Luoyang Normal University, and formal academic training in Wushu, Exercise Physiology, Sports Psychology, and Health Education. He has served as an International-Level Judge since 2024, a Pan American Judge since 2022, USA Wushu Team Coach from 2019 to 2025, Chief Judge at the 14th Pan American Wushu Championships in 2024, and Assistant Chief Judge at the USA National Team Trials in 2025. Coaching also includes SiFu Shaun, a member of the USA Wushu Team, USA Junior Wushu Team, and USA Kung Fu Team, who ranked 1st in the United States in contemporary (compulsory) Wushu at the 2025 USA Team Trials and has a nursing major with career goals in pediatrics and rehabilitation.

The Kids & Youth Program states that it is for motivated young people regardless of prior experience and that across its programs students develop effective self-defense skills, confidence, discipline, and resilience. The program description states that instruction follows a practical and realistic approach with attention to proper technique, conditioning, and injury prevention, and that it is committed to steady, healthy progress, strong fundamentals, and carrying training values into school and everyday life. Students begin with foundational classes and belt level training, and placement in advanced training is by invitation based on skill level, readiness, and commitment.

Advanced training options for motivated youth athletes include a Traditional Kung Fu Competition Team, a Contemporary Wushu Competition Team in a youth Olympic sport, and a U.S. National Team Training Pathway, all described as structured and age-appropriate with a focus on safety, long-term development, and athlete readiness. The program description notes a patient, fun, and high-energy teaching style and a focus on self-discipline, respect, and confidence as traits for success in school, at home, and in life.

Students from this program have earned 7 gold, 15 silver, and 18 bronze medals at world-level competitions organized by the International Wushu Federation, including World Taijiquan Championships and World Wushu Championships, and more than 50 gold, 35 silver, and 42 bronze medals at Pan American Wushu Championships. Listed results include the 10th World Kungfu Championships in China in 2025 (2 gold, 10 silver, 13 bronze), the 17th World Wushu Championships in Brazil in 2025 (Spear – 6th, Duilian – 8th, Changquan – 8th), the 14th Pan American Wushu Championships in the U.S. in 2024 (29 gold, 13 silver, 18 bronze), the 4th Pan American Kung Fu Championships in Ontario, Canada in 2023 (15 gold, 17 silver, 23 bronze), the 13th Pan American Wushu Championships in Brasilia, Brazil in 2022 (1 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze), the 3rd Pan American Kung Fu Championships in 2019 (8 gold, 11 silver, 9 bronze), the 3rd World Taijiquan Championship in Burgas, Bulgaria in 2018 (gold medal in Men’s Taiji Quan for Nathan), and multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals at the 8th World Kung Fu Championship in China.
