About

Kids Jiu Jitsu introduces children to the 10th Planet Jiu-jitsu system, a no-gi only style that uses clinches to hold opponents close while moving into various submissions. The program is part of a broader training schedule that also includes Adult Jiu Jitsu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, No-Gi Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Foundations classes, and a Shark Tank class. Within this system, students learn techniques from the four core elements of 10th Planet Jiu-jitsu: The Lockdown, The Truck, Rubber Guard, and Leg Locks.

• Ages: 5–12 years old
• Schedule: Ongoing classes with additional Foundations classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10am, and a Shark Tank class every Sunday at noon

Kids Jiu Jitsu is offered at 10th Planet Ventura, which is headed by two black belts who have each trained for more than a decade directly under Eddie Bravo. The head instructor, Scott Ross, is a third degree black belt under Eddie Bravo and previously led the fundamentals program at 10th Planet Headquarters in Downtown Los Angeles for five years. Matt Dempsey has trained at 10th Planet Headquarters for a decade, earned his black belt in 2019, and is a 2nd Degree Black Belt under Eddie Bravo. Greg Hoffman is an instructor who is a retired combat veteran with 30 years of service in the United States Marine Corps, holds a black belt in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, and is a brown belt under Scott Ross and Matt Dempsey. Wrestling and Foundations Coach Nick Lamoreaux was an NCAA Division II wrestler for the University of Kutztown in Pennsylvania and is a purple belt. Kids Instructor and Shark Tank Instructor Damien Gonzalez is a purple belt and one of the school's top competitors, and Kids Instructor and Foundations Instructor Dominick Gonzalez is also one of the school's top competitors. The mission of 10th Planet Jiu-jitsu is described as a living system of jiu-jitsu developed by Eddie Bravo that continues to evolve as new methods are introduced and old techniques continue to be refined. One testimonial describes it as an “amazing place to train” with coaches who “know their craft very well” and mentions “a great environment where everyone wants to help everyone.” Another testimonial notes that a student with no previous martial arts experience became “totally hooked” and describes Scott and Matt as making it “really fun to train here” in a “welcoming environment overall.”
