About

Kids Jiu Jitsu introduces children to Jiu Jitsu through a program that includes Kids Jiu Jitsu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and No-Gi Jiu Jitsu. The program follows the 10th Planet Jiu-jitsu system developed by Eddie Bravo, which is described as a living system of jiu-jitsu that continues to evolve as new methods are introduced and old techniques are refined. Within this system, students learn core elements such as the Lockdown (a variation of half-guard), the Truck (an alternate form of back control), Rubber Guard, and leg locks, using clinches to hold opponents close while moving into various submissions.

• Ages: 5–12 years old

The kids program teaches the fundamentals of Jiu Jitsu while also instilling strong core values and leadership skills, and it brings together kids from across the community to connect with new friends and mentors. Kids Jiu Jitsu is part of 10th Planet Ventura, which is headed by two black belts who have both trained for more than a decade directly under Eddie Bravo. The leadership team includes Scott Ross (Head Instructor and third degree black belt under Eddie Bravo), Matthew (Matt) Dempsey (black belt under Eddie Bravo and Truck specialist), Greg Hoffman (retired combat veteran with a black belt in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program and a brown belt under Scott Ross and Matt Dempsey), Nick Lamoreaux (wrestling and Foundations coach and former NCAA Division II wrestler), Damien Gonzalez (Kids Instructor and Shark Tank Instructor, purple belt), and Dominick Gonzalez (Kids Instructor and Foundations Instructor). Testimonials describe the coaches as knowing their craft very well, note that Scott Ross and Matt Dempsey make training fun and welcoming for students with no prior martial arts experience, and highlight Scott’s attention to detail and commitment to student success.
