Ventura Makos Surf Camp offers surf lessons, surf camps, and year round surf programs. The program includes Spring After School Surf Classes, Spring Break Surf Camp, Mini Makos Surf Classes, Homeschool Surf Classes, private lessons, and small group lessons.
• Ages: 4–17 years old
• Schedule: Homeschool Surf Classes run March–May; online registration closes 24 hours before the start of the session.
Ventura Makos Surf Camp has been providing surf instruction for over the last decade. Ventura Makos & Silver Strand Surf Camps are for ages 8–15, Mini Makos for ages 4–7 will be offered at the Harbor Cove, and Teen Surf Camp @ Silver Strand Beach is for ages 13–17. Private and small group lessons are available to all ages, and Ventura Makos provides surf lessons, surf camps, and year round surf programs for all ages.
Groups are typically 4–5 participants with 1 instructor, and the same groups stay together all week. The safety ratio is 1 instructor to 5 participants, and for Mini Makos the ratio is 1 instructor to 3 participants. The program does not allow drop-ins. Last minute cancelations will not be refunded, and cancelation must be made 1 week prior for a full refund. All participants and instructors sign a specific waiver to participate.
All students use company wetsuits, take them home daily to rinse and clean, and bring them back the following day to use. All participants must return company wetsuits on Friday.
The staff includes lifeguards, EMTs, professional surfers, and experienced water-men and water-women in California, and all employees are required to be First Aid and CPR certified. The stated mission is to provide a safe and positive atmosphere for participants, to provide the best possible surf experience, and to create memories that will last a lifetime. Safety is described as the number one priority, with steps and precautions taken for the comfort of staff, participants, and the local community. Ventura Makos is described as the number one surf school in Ventura County. The program accepts charter school funds.
