About
Diablo Ballet School Summer Intensive offers a four-week Summer Intensive that includes daily ballet technique class, pointe and pre-pointe, Pas de deux, Variations, Repertoire, Character & Flamenco, Contemporary, and Musical theatre. Students also take classes in dance history, nutrition, injury prevention, Pilates, and conditioning, along with specified barre work (including pliés in 1st, 2nd and 5th, tendus, dégagés, rond de jambes par terre, frappé, brief adagio, and grand battements), center work (adagio, small jumps, and a pirouette combination), and pointe work (relevés in 1st and 2nd, sous-sus, échappés, and passé). Class size will be limited, and students are placed into two levels, Intermediate or Advanced, on the first day of the intensive.
• Schedule: Four-week Summer Intensive from July 6–31, Monday through Friday, generally 10:00 am–3:30 pm, with options to attend 3 weeks, 2 weeks, or 1 week.
• Price: $1600 for the full 4-week program if registered before March 27, or $1700 on or after March 28; $1350 for 3 weeks, $950 for 2 weeks, $500 for 1 week; $50 registration fee for students not currently enrolled in Diablo Ballet School; 10% discount for multiple students in one family; $200 nonrefundable deposit due at registration with final payment due June 5; payment plans accepted; $45 video audition fee.
Acceptance to Diablo Ballet School’s Summer Intensive is by audition only, and auditions are open to dancers of all genders who have achieved intermediate or advanced levels of ballet training. Advanced female students must have at least two years of pointe training. Auditions can be done in person or by video submission, and video applications will be accepted through May 29, 2026, or until the intensive is full. To submit a video audition, students must send a video no longer than five minutes of barre and centre work, including the specified barre, center, and pointe elements, to [email protected]. Students receive training from Diablo Ballet’s professional dancers, Diablo Ballet School faculty, and world-renowned guest instructors, and the program is described as being designed to broaden the perspective of serious ballet students through exposure to a wide variety of disciplines.
Diablo Ballet was founded in 1993 and is described as an award-winning, internationally recognized, professional dance company. In 2019, Diablo Ballet launched Diablo Ballet School, noted as the first school in the history of Contra Costa County operated by a professional ballet company. Diablo Ballet’s mission states that it is committed to enriching, inspiring, and educating children and adults through the art of dance. The organization’s stated purpose includes making professional-quality dance available to residents of Contra Costa County and surrounding counties, promoting community alliances with businesses, schools, and other non-profit organizations, and supporting youth through arts-based lessons in schools. Through its PEEK Outreach Program, Diablo Ballet reports having reached over 75,000 school children since 1995, as well as at-risk teenage girls and boys incarcerated in the Juvenile Justice System.
