About
Excel Basketball Camp includes Fundamental Learning Stations, shooting analysis, one on one competition, Camp one on one championships, and Camp Free Throw Champion Awards. Campers take part in League Games, free throws, dribble series, ballhandling, and fast break activities. Each camper’s shot is videotaped, and Coach Allocco reviews their technique in a one on one session while campers take notes on his comments as he teaches the BLESH technique created at Excel.
• Ages: 5–17 years old
• Schedule: Week-long day camps and four-day junior camps with options on weekdays
Camp begins each day with 8 Fundamental Learning Stations, and each camper plays in 2 League Games each day. Coaches meet with campers each day to share motivational stories, anecdotes, and lifeskills learning sessions, and the camp schedule is described as having no down time with a comprehensive day. The week-long Day Camps have been running since 1981, and Excel Basketball Camp was established in 1981. The camp leadership team includes Camp Directors Coach Brian Sullivan and Frank Allocco, Jr in California, and Coach Art Cattano and Coach Gregg Allocco in New Jersey, and most of the coaches are Excel alumni. The Excel Family states that it is constantly teaching, inspiring, and motivating players to become the best they can be. The program has partnered with Ultimate Fieldhouse in Walnut Creek to bring back Shooting Camps with a clinic-style format. One testimonial describes Excel as part of the foundation for a player and coach, calling it one of the most influential experiences in that person’s life, and notes an emphasis on fundamentals and creating habits, with coaches who have been like family since age 10 and experience working in the NBA.
