WCYAA Basketball offers organized basketball for children, including a 5 on 5 full court experience and a 5/6 year Rookie League half court format. The program includes both practices and games, with practices scheduled immediately before games on Saturdays.

Walnut Creek Youth Athletic Association has been providing youth sports since 1957 and operates WCYAA Basketball as a non-profit, non-member organization with a paid professional staff. The organization states that it is dedicated to providing the best sports programs for youth, with emphasis on teaching good sportsmanship, team concepts, and the development of each child’s skills and character. WCYAA has a contractual relationship with the City of Walnut Creek and the Mt. Diablo Unified School District for gym use and is the recipient of the City of Walnut Creek Pride Award.
Head coaches in WCYAA Basketball complete a NAYS basketball coach training program and a Concussion Protocol Course, and the organization pays for the NAYS training. There is also a free short online program on concussion and a free short online course on sudden cardiac arrest for coaches. Both moms and dads are welcomed as coaches in all divisions, and children of the head coach and one designated assistant coach are placed on their respective teams.
Registration for WCYAA Basketball is closed and all divisions are full, and there is a no refund after registration policy. Every player is guaranteed to play two full quarters or one half of every game. Practices and games are combined so that teams practice right before their scheduled games on Saturdays, with 1st and 2nd grade teams practicing for about 30 minutes and Rookie League players practicing for about 20 minutes before games.
Each Grades 1–2 player receives a jersey, shorts, and a basketball, and each Rookie Division player receives a jersey and an age-size basketball, with uniforms belonging to the player at the end of the season. Rookie League players receive a jersey only, and uniforms must be worn at all games. Siblings are placed on the same team if they are registered in the same division. Head coaches receive a $75 rebate at the end of the season, and Rookie Division head coaches receive a $25 rebate.
Parents are encouraged to be present at all practices and games. A Concussion and Head Injury Information Sheet must be signed and returned by parents and children age 6 and older before the child is allowed to practice or play. No food or drink is allowed in the gyms, though snacks and water may be consumed outside, and no dogs or other pets are allowed in the gyms or at practices. Neither coaches nor WCYAA staff may give children any medication, and parents are advised to keep all items out of sight and lock their cars when parking. Registrants agree to follow any COVID-related rules and regulations imposed by entities that rent WCYAA gym time.
