About

Digital NEST Career Programs include weekly Quest Club meetings, guest speaker events, field trips and industry tours, leadership opportunities, and hands-on technical training. Participants take part in activities such as web design, web development, video production, portfolio project creation, and career workshops focused on resume building and networking. The program also offers access to industry-level software, 1:1 career coaching, professional mentorship, and the chance to gain professional certifications, along with events like fireside chats with industry leaders, alumni day, and tours of local businesses and companies such as Netflix.

• Ages: 14–18 years old
• Schedule: Programs run in Fall, Spring, and Summer seasons, with Fall and Spring lasting 10 weeks and Summer lasting 8 weeks; weekly time commitments range from 1.5 hours for Quest Club to 6 hours for Pathways and 15 hours per week for bizzNEST, with Career Exploration meetings on Wednesdays from 4:30–6pm.
• Price: Membership is free, and the only investment requested is time.

Career Pathways and bizzNEST each require a one-year commitment, and bizzNEST is a one-year paid internship at 15–20 hours per week. Optional certifications offered through completion of the Pathways and in bizzNEST include CompTIA A+, CAPM, and FAA 107 (drone license). No background knowledge is necessary, and Digital NEST provides the necessary equipment. Digital NEST’s mission is to provide underserved Latinx and all underserved youth in California with skills, resources, and a network to build and launch careers, and to create sustainable and scalable technology learning centers to foster economic equality. The organization’s CEO and founder is Jacob Martinez. Digital NEST has been noted as a model for closing the digital divide in under-resourced communities throughout the U.S. and has sparked nationwide dialogue among educators, policy-makers, and the media. One bizzNEST alum, Mytzy Escalante, describes joining the NEST in college while studying computer science and now working as a Software Engineer at Habu, using skills in creativity, organization, and leadership gained there.
