About
AYSO Region 71 Youth Soccer Programs offers youth soccer through a variety of organized activities, including Fall League Season, Spring Session, All-Stars, tournaments, Select Team Programs, tournament teams, and Club-AYSO United. The program also includes the EPIC Program (formerly VIP) and a 5U Jamboree Program as part of its youth soccer offerings. The stated mission of AYSO Region 71 Youth Soccer Programs is “Providing world class youth soccer programs that enrich children's lives.”
Region 71’s history includes the beginning of Chuck Schussman’s AYSO involvement in 1968 with his seven-year-old son, his help starting Region 29 at Winnetka Park in 1970, and the launch of Region 71 in the Canoga Park/Woodland Hills area in 1974 as a district under Region 29. Chuck Schussman served as Commissioner in a historical role, and Jane Schussman ran the snack table and wrote the weekly newsletter called the Touchline. Region 71’s annual Schussman Shootout and the Schussman Sportsmanship Award continue to bear Chuck Schussman’s name in recognition of his commitment to fair play and over 40 years as an AYSO volunteer. The region describes itself as a volunteer organization whose members have regular jobs and families and state that they “do it all for the kids.” Region 71 also states that it quickly became known as a place where all kids had a happy and healthy experience playing soccer in an atmosphere of friendliness and fairness. The region notes that it does not give out personal phone numbers for board members and that the only way to contact them is by email.
