SNAP with Stepping Stones Aquatic Programs

SNAP with Stepping Stones Aquatic Programs offers aquatic therapy, adaptive swim lessons, group aquatic classes, aquatic physical therapy, aquatic occupational therapy, aquatic speech therapy, private swimming lessons, and a parent and child group class. Children and families participate in activities that include water safety, swim skills, fitness and games, the Little Swimmers group aquatic class, and basic swimming skills.

• Schedule: Individual Physical, Occupational & Speech Therapy is a 45 minute treatment booked for 6 consecutive weeks; Individual Adaptive Swim Lessons are 30 minute lessons booked for 8 consecutive weeks; Group Aquatic Class is booked for 8 consecutive weeks; Private Swim Lessons registration includes 8 weeks of 30 minute private swimming lessons; Group Aquatic Class registration includes 8 weeks of Parent and Child group class with a 30 minute swim class for Little Swimmers and a 45 minute group aquatic class with a therapist; Aquatic Therapy registration includes 6 weeks of 45 minute private physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech therapy
• Price: Individual Physical, Occupational & Speech Therapy is $120 for each 45 minute treatment booked for 6 consecutive weeks; Individual Adaptive Swim Lessons are $55 for each 30 minute lesson booked for 8 consecutive weeks; Group Aquatic Class is $40 for each class booked for 8 consecutive weeks; Private Swim Lessons registration is $440.00 for 8 weeks of 30 minute private swimming lessons with an adaptive swim instructor; Group Aquatic Class registration is $320.00 for 8 weeks of Parent and Child group class; Aquatic Therapy registration is $720.00 for 6 weeks of 45 minute private physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech therapy in a community-based pool.

SNAP with Stepping Stones is described as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Special Needs Aquatic Program created to fill a need within the community to offer safe, inclusive aquatic programs for children with special needs and their families led by skilled instructors who foster trust, confidence, and connection. The program provides aquatic therapy, adaptive swim lessons and group aquatic classes in community settings and includes group aquatic classes where each child is assisted by a parent or caregiver in the pool. Little Swimmers is recommended for children 5 and under, for first exposure to swimming lessons or pools, for children who need time to warm up to a new environment and people, and for those learning basic swim skills, exposure to handling and pool safety. The group aquatic class is recommended for children 6 and older, for children who may need assistance to participate in the pool, for children who would benefit from physical, sensory or social activities in an aquatic environment, and for children to utilize the properties of water to allow for more freedom and ease of movement. Children in the Individual Physical, Occupational & Speech Therapy program can be any age and do not need to meet any requirements to participate, while children in Individual Adaptive Swim Lessons must be 3 or older and meet minimum requirements for swim readiness.

Executive Director and Founder Jessica is a Pediatric Physical Therapist who developed a clinical specialty in aquatics through earning an Academy of Aquatic Physical Therapy Clinical Competency Certificate and established and volunteered as head coach for a Special Olympics swim team specifically developed for young children, after growing her private practice, Stepping Stones Physical Therapy, over 6 years and working for and volunteering with several non-profit organizations. Lead Therapist Danielle began her aquatic career as a certified lifeguard and swim instructor, worked as a therapeutic exercise instructor at CSUN's Center of Achievement, completed a doctorate degree in physical therapy at California State University Northridge, is a licensed physical therapist, and has over 12 years of experience teaching swim skills to clients from 6 months to adulthood. Lead Swim Instructor Maya is a seasoned swimming instructor and lifeguard with 9 years of experience and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Occupational Therapy, and Program Director Cara is a pediatric occupational therapist who completed her master’s degree at San Jose State. CSUN's Center of Achievement is described as a completely wheelchair accessible facility with an adaptive gym and pool to accommodate clients with various disabilities. One staff member, Maya, describes her experience by saying, “I knew it would be a great fit for me,” and, “To be able to combine both my love of teaching and my love of working with special needs children, it felt like home to me.”
