The Learning Center at Oaks Christian School offers SAT/ACT prep, one-on-one tutoring, executive function coaching, and academic support for online or homeschool students. The program provides personalized tutoring, coaching, and mentoring for both Oaks Christian School (OCS) and non-OCS students.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: In-person tutoring is available during and after school hours until 5:30 pm Monday–Thursday and until 4:30 pm on Fridays, with additional evening and weekend appointments available remotely.
Since 2012, The Learning Center at Oaks Christian School has been connecting with and empowering students to thrive. Academic tutors are tested for mastery in their specific subjects and continue their professional development as instructors and coaches throughout the year. The mission of the program is to serve a diverse community by helping students develop skills, a growth mindset, and creativity to achieve their goals through personalized tutoring, coaching, mentoring, and other learning resources. Academic tutors serve from a Christian worldview while welcoming students and families from all backgrounds and faiths, and the tutoring philosophy is based on active student learning and a supportive and collaborative environment. The program focuses on fostering critical thinking skills, facilitating the acquisition of life-long learning skills, helping students develop problem-solving strategies, and inspiring students to grow in self-reliance, with an emphasis on knowledge and wisdom, well-being and community, leadership and character. Students are exhorted to embrace academic integrity, effort, discipline, perseverance, and taking accountability for their own learning.
The Learning Center at Oaks Christian School provides personalized tutoring, coaching, mentoring, and other learning resources to students and families in the Conejo Valley, Oak Park, Las Virgenes, Los Angeles County, and Ventura County, and can connect with students throughout the United States and internationally through distance learning educational technology. Its academic services are available to all students, whether they are enrolled at Oaks Christian School or another school, and it serves kindergarten through college students attending public and private schools, homeschools, online schools, and hybrid schools.
Parent and student comments about the program include reports of tutors being very patient, understanding, and positive, and front desk staff communicating about schedule changes and options. One OCS student reports that confidence and enjoyment in math have increased since joining the Learning Center.
