About
Summer Art Camps at The Art Studio include Traditional Art Camp, Digital Art Camp, and Arts & Craft Camp, with activities such as drawing, oil painting, sculpture, digital arts, and 3D crafts. The Art Studio has been teaching students in the Orange County and Los Angeles area since 1994. Owner Denise Wada has over 25 years of experience teaching art and graphic design and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from California State University Long Beach. Instructors include Denise Wada, Luke Gray, Jenna Gray, and Sansanee Boonyad.
The studio describes its mission as welcoming students into a setting where talent is nurtured, interests are embraced, and learning is fun, with teaching tailored to the interest, development, and personality of each student through knowledge and techniques for visual expression. The mission also states a goal of quieting the noise of a technologically fast-paced world so students can hear their voice, explore what interests them, have the courage to express themselves, and become problem solvers as they create art.
Unique features of the camps include a relaxed, pressure-free studio atmosphere, small group sizes that typically range from a minimum of 3 kids up to about 12, and the addition of an assistant when enrollment exceeds 8 kids. Every Thursday is donut day, when students receive a donut to inspire their still life drawing or painting, and each camp week ends with a Friday Art Show where students showcase their work. Younger participants in Traditional Art Camp typically work at a faster pace, which may lead them to produce additional pieces. The Art Studio also offers summer camps for kids, teens, adults, and all experience levels, and has created an Open Studio Membership.
Tuition for Traditional Art Camp includes all supplies, and tuition for Digital Art Camp and Arts & Craft Camp includes digital arts and maker projects. Students are encouraged to bring their own snacks and drinks, and the studio provides a hot and cold water cooler. Students may bring their own art supplies or digital tablet, or purchase an add-on for class project supplies.
One parent testimonial describes The Art Studio as a place where a student has attended for more than seven years, with outstanding instructors, relationships with fellow artists, and uninterrupted focused time that leads to memories and artwork to share with friends and family. Another testimonial notes that the studio is spacious, organized, and well equipped, with tables, easels, and good lighting. Additional testimonials mention an instructor who took time to show a 14-year-old specific techniques and skills, a student who felt at home upon entering the studio and observed top-quality work, and a parent whose daughter has attended the summer camps for three years and chooses only this camp. Owner Denise Wada was raised in Orange County and states that she is excited to serve the neighborhood, community, and city in which she grew up.
