The Art Studio has been teaching students in the Orange County and Los Angeles area since 1994. Owner Denise Wada has over 25 years of experience teaching art and graphic design and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from California State University Long Beach. The leadership team includes owner and Traditional Art Camp instructor Denise Wada, Digital Art Camp and Arts & Craft Camp instructor Luke Gray, Sketchbook Camp instructor Ryanne Phillips, and instructors Jenna Gray and Sansanee Boonyad.
The studio’s mission states that students begin a journey where talent is nurtured, interests are embraced, and learning is fun, with teaching tailored to the interest, development, and personality of each student through knowledge and techniques for visual expression. The mission also states that, in a technologically fast-paced world, the goal is to quiet the noise so students can hear their voice, explore what interests them, have the courage to express themselves, and become problem solvers as they create art. Owner Denise Wada was raised in Orange County and is described as excited to serve the neighborhood, community, and city in which she grew up.
The Art Studio provides a working environment with supplies such as markers, watercolor, pastels, oil paint, charcoal, graphite, Sculpey polymer clay, and acrylic paint. Camps typically range from a minimum of 3 kids to occasionally up to 12, and an assistant is usually added when enrollment exceeds 8 kids. Every Thursday is donut day, when students receive a donut to inspire their still life drawing or painting, and younger participants in Traditional Art Camp typically work at a faster pace and may produce additional pieces. Students are encouraged to bring their own snacks and drinks, a hot and cold water cooler is available, and families are asked to inform the studio of any food restrictions.
