About
Adams State University Baseball Camps offer baseball camps that focus on on-field baseball activities. The camps are led by skilled college staff and include instruction from coaches and current Adams State players.
The leadership team includes Head Baseball Coach Bruce DelTondo and Assistant Baseball Coach Chaz Lopez, who also serves as the Head Assistant at Adams State University and works as the offensive coordinator and outfield coach for the Grizzlies. Instructors at the camps include Coach DelTondo, Coach Lopez, and current Adams State players, and athletes have the chance to interact directly with Coach DelTondo and Coach Lopez. The mission of Adams State University Baseball Camps states that the camps embrace inclusivity, welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds and skill levels, are open to the public within the specified age range, and are not officially associated with Adams State University.
Coach Chaz Lopez enters his third year as the Head Assistant at Adams State University and has helped the Adams State offensive and outfield improve each year. These improvements contributed to the Grizzlies breaking the school record for most wins at 24 and achieving the longest winning streak in program history at 8 in 2024. The Grizzlies also finished third in the nation in batting average during the 2024 season and had multiple other offensive categories finish in the top 25 nationally. Coach Lopez finished his playing career in 2021 after pitching in the Pecos League for the Colorado Springs Snow Sox and previously played at Bellevue University in Omaha, Nebraska, under Coach Monlux. After his playing career, he became a Graduate Assistant at Bellevue University and helped the team reach the NAIA World Series in 2022, and he has coached in the RMBL, helping the Denver Cougars reach the quarterfinals of the NBC World Series in 2023.
The camps are described as inclusive and open to all baseball players, regardless of skill level, age, grade level, or gender, and they typically cater to a wide range of age groups from elementary school to high school. Safety measures at the camps include following necessary health and safety guidelines, providing proper supervision, and ensuring that equipment is in good condition. Participants are expected to bring their own baseball equipment, including gloves, bats, helmets, and appropriate footwear, and it is recommended that they bring sunscreen, a water bottle, and any necessary medications or allergy information.
