About

Camp Windy Peak Overnight Camp includes rock climbing, mountain biking, paddling, backpacking, archery, a low ropes course, tree-climbing, mountain boarding, summer camp traditions, and games. Campers take part in activities such as mountain biking at Staunton State Park’s mountain biking trail system, rock climbing at Staunton State Park’s walls and crags, paddling at Nelson Pond and Wellington Lake, and a 3 Day/2 Night basecamp and backpacking hybrid trip that includes attempting to summit a high peak. Additional activities include whitewater rafting with Liquid Descent Rafting, archery on an on-site archery range, tree climbing on giant ponderosas, rappelling, and teambuilding challenges on an on-site Challenge Course such as walking across suspended logs, crossing a “river” without falling in, and getting the whole team through a “spider’s web” without touching it.

Avid4 Adventure states that its instructors are all 18 and older with impeccable credentials and serious safety and skills training, and that it uses professional-caliber equipment with access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids. The program includes detailed skill progression in core sports such as rock climbing, mountain biking, paddling, and backpacking, along with additional outdoor activities including archery, a low ropes course, tree-climbing, and mountain boarding. Campers practice specific skills such as braking, cornering, uphill climbing, and bike maintenance in mountain biking; setting anchors for a top-rope climb, tying knots, using climbing commands, belaying, and rappelling in rock climbing; and canoeing, kayaking, and stand up paddleboarding in paddling. The backcountry component includes a 3 Day/2 Night basecamp and backpacking hybrid trip in Lost Creek Wilderness where campers cook meals as a team, practice Leave No Trace Principles, and have solo personal reflection time in the woods.

The program offers female and male cabins for sessions and a Challenge Course that is described as designed to build team camaraderie and develop conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
