Apex School of Movement offers parkour coaching and parkour training that includes parkour strength training, Parkour Ukemi, and Parkour Randori. The program also conducts parkour research as part of its approach to movement and training.
Many of the coaches are at the forefront of developing high quality and innovative parkour training methods. The leadership team includes Ryan Ford, who established the first formal parkour training program in the Western Hemisphere and is associated with Parkour Strength Training, and Amos Rendao, who is associated with Parkour Ukemi and Parkour Randori. The origins of Apex trace back to Boulder, Colorado in September 2006, and in March 2009 they opened their first school in downtown Denver. The program’s stated mission is to empower international parkour, freerunning, and art du déplacement communities by teaching safe and effective parkour coaching methods, researching and developing better parkour training strategies, and building strong, authentic parkour culture and community. Apex School of Movement works with educators and researchers in biomechanics, physical therapy, chiropractic, martial arts, and strength training, and offers both online and in-person parkour learning, including programs, events, and a shop. They provide free content such as a blog, research, YouTube videos related to parkour, and a free ebook for beginners, which is shared with 28,000 subscribers. They describe three paths to fitness in their approach: Athletics, Play, and Exercise, and emphasize fitness through innovative movement training, natural exercise, and play. They have helped develop many world-class athletes who have been featured in movies and reality TV, performed for Cirque du Soleil, and won elite international parkour competitions. Their community involvement includes aiming to empower international parkour, freerunning, and art du déplacement communities and engaging with veteran coaches, top athletes, and an online community via a Facebook group and Instagram.
