The Academy of Children’s Theatre (ACT) was launched in 2005. The owner, Lynn M. Hamilton, has a degree in Theatre Arts and almost 40 years of acting, teaching, and directing experience, and instructors are described as qualified professionals. Lynn M. Hamilton serves as Owner of the Academy of Children’s Theatre (ACT) and President & Founder of the Academy of Community Theatre (ACT II). The program’s stated mission is to use the art of theatre to build character, confidence, and creativity in the lives of students in the Colorado Springs area.

ACT notes small class sizes, professional guidance from experienced and qualified instructors, and instruction tailored to challenge both beginners and those with advanced skills. Students from 4 years old through high school participate in award-winning theatre classes and award-winning Spring Break and Summer Camps in a wholesome environment with safe and honoring content for the whole family. Students perform on stage at the end of the semester, and Spring Break camps include a Camp Showcase performed on stage for family and friends, including a Friday dress rehearsal and Camp Showcase at a rented theatre stage. The program also offers the opportunity to perform in a one-act production using multiple, shorter plays to give each student a more significant role, and notes that camps fill up quickly.

The program and its related organizations have received multiple Best of the Springs Awards. In 2023, awards listed include: Gold Award for Best After School Program and Best Play (Tuck Everlasting – TYA); Silver Award for Best Theatre Company (ACT & ACT II) and Best Actress: Olivia Newman (Seussical Jr.); and Bronze Award for Best Non-Profit Arts Group (ACT II) and Best Musical (Seussical Jr.). For 2024, awards listed include: Best Theatre Company (ACT & ACT II), Best After School Program (ACT), Best Non-Profit Arts Group (ACT II), Best Play (A Christmas Carol by ACT II), and Best Actor (Caleb Swainson); Silver Award for Best Summer Day Camp (ACT); and Bronze Award for Best Non-Profit 501(c)3 (ACT II), Best Musical (Annie Jr. by ACT II), and Best Actress (Grace Gillespie).
