Mountain Biking Camp – Erie
Erie Mountain Biking Camp (meeting location TBA), 450 Powers St, Erie, CO 80516
About
Mountain Biking Camp – Erie focuses on mountain biking and trail riding, with campers practicing skills such as bunny hops, track stands, braking, and shifting. Campers ride on rolling single and double track terrain, including narrow and winding trails, and work on descending and ascending trail sections. The program also includes learning bicycle maintenance basics, such as safety checking bikes, solving gear problems, changing flat tires, learning to properly fit a helmet and bike, and practicing basic bike commands.
• Ages: 7–12 years old
• Schedule: One-week sessions, Monday–Friday, with camp hours from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM and optional After Care from 3:00–5:30 PM
• Price: One Week Price $740; Erie to Lafayette shuttle included at $0; After Care $105; Bike Rental $50; Avid4 merch available with prices varying (tax included)
Instructors are all 18 and older, described as insatiable outdoors experts with impeccable credentials and serious safety and skills training. The leadership team includes Founder David Secunda, who is a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. The program is part of Avid4 Adventure, which states a belief in the transformative power of the outdoors and notes that kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. Avid4 Adventure is a Certified B Corp, its summer camps are accredited by the American Camp Association, and it has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps.
Campers are grouped by grade range, either 2nd–4th graders or 5th–7th graders. Campers are strongly encouraged to use their own bikes, which should be tuned, fit well, and be appropriate for riding on dirt trails with hand brakes, gears, and wider tires; bike rental is available if selected during registration. In order to register, campers must be able to bike confidently without training wheels on a dirt surface. A free, supervised shuttle from Erie to Lafayette Day Camp is included, with drop-off for the shuttle at 8:00 AM and return at 3:30 PM, and optional After Care is available from 3:00–5:30 PM. The camp is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, and increased confidence, and states that if these promises are not met, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free. The organization states that it hires committed, experienced instructors, uses professional-caliber equipment, transports campers to authentic local recreation areas, teaches skills including sound judgment and problem-solving, offers programs that evolve from age 3 to 17, and does everything in its power to keep kids safe while allowing calculated, well-communicated risks.
Parent testimonials describe this as a favorite camp where a child progressed from using training wheels to riding without them, where staff are described as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion, and where campers are active every day and continue talking about their experience weeks later.
