About

Access AfterSchool offers a full-day summer program called BoostCamp that includes academics in the morning and enrichment classes in the afternoon. Students take part in activities designed to promote literacy, science skills, math skills, physical fitness, and creativity, including art, music, science, fitness, cooking, and martial arts. BoostCamp includes a weekly field trip, and one cooking class has students calculate cutting a recipe’s ingredient measurements by multiplying fractions.

• Schedule: Full-day summer program with academics in the morning, enrichment classes in the afternoon, and a weekly field trip

Access AfterSchool states that it enriches the lives of youth, supports working families, and builds healthy communities by providing high quality afterschool and summer programs. Access operates as a separate nonprofit organization that works in collaboration with schools and has partnered with hundreds of professional civic organizations since 2009 to instruct in its programs. Access SecondShift, XLR8, and BoostCamp together serve approximately 1,400 youth annually, and BoostCamp includes a mentorship program for students entering 6th or 7th grade with five scholarship spots. Families must sign a behavior and attendance policy before registering for BoostCamp.

Access reports that over 97% of participants said they were happier, more creative, more confident, and had a better attitude due to their participation in its programs. Access also reports that 100% of BoostCamp participants’ parents said their child looked forward to going to BoostCamp and that they were satisfied or very satisfied with the program. BoostCamp participants have chances to build positive relationships with community leaders such as hospital, police, and fire protection personnel. One parent described Access AfterSchool as “an amazing program” and said they felt “blessed to have this opportunity in the valley,” and a SecondShift parent said it was “great to finally have an after school option” and hoped it would be offered again.
