Access AfterSchool states that its overarching goals for programs like BoostCamp include engagement in high-quality programming in a safe and healthy environment, support to enter the upcoming school year prepared for success, and opportunities to build positive relationships with fellow students, adult mentors, and community leaders. Families must sign a behavior and attendance policy before registering, and BoostCamp includes a mentorship program for students entering 6th or 7th grade, with aspiring mentors able to apply for one of five scholarship spots and take on responsibilities that prepare them for real-world challenges and allow them to become role models for younger students.

Access AfterSchool reports that Access SecondShift, XLR8, and BoostCamp together serve approximately 1,400 youth annually and that it emphasizes eight core youth development and college/career readiness skills: collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, responsibility, growth mindset, health literacy, initiative, and digital literacy. Access AfterSchool also reports that 100% of BoostCamp participants’ parents said their child looked forward to going to BoostCamp and that 100% of parents said they were satisfied or very satisfied with the program, and that over 97% of participants in its programs reported being happier, more creative, more confident, and having a better attitude due to their participation.

Access AfterSchool states that its mission is to enrich the lives of youth, support working families, and build healthy communities by providing high quality afterschool and summer programs. Since 2009, Access has partnered with hundreds of professional civic organizations to instruct in its programs and believes that collaboration is the foundation for a strong community. As one example, Access and Junior Achievement partnered to provide two classes at Ross Montessori School that show young students how to generate wealth and manage it, how to create jobs that make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace, and participants have opportunities to build positive relationships with community leaders such as hospital, police, and fire protection personnel.

Parent feedback shared by Access AfterSchool includes comments such as, “What an amazing program! We are so blessed to have this opportunity in the valley for our children,” and, “It was great to finally have an after school option. I really hope it is offered again this year.”
