Dance Works

Dance Works offers Pre-Ballet for ages 3 to 4, with basic ballet steps, movement games, and gross motor skills. It also offers Ballet and Pointe with Cecchetti technique, Jazz with turns and leaps, Tap, Hip Hop with street dance styles such as break dancing, animation, and popping, Lyrical/Contemporary, Ballet/Tap for ages 5 to 6, Jazz/Tap for ages 6 to 9, Mommy & Me for ages 1.5 and above, Competition/Performance, Jazz & Lyrical/Contemporary, and Turns & Leaps.

Programs

• Pre-Ballet — 3-4 · Designed for dancers ages 3 to 4. Teaches basic ballet steps, movement games, and gross motor skills.
• Ballet and Pointe — Dancers are taught the Cecchetti technique (Italian school) and are introduced to other styles.
• Jazz — A blend of Luigi, Giordano, Hatchett, Tremaine. Includes many turns and leaps.
• Competition/Performance — Designed for the exceptionally motivated student whose extra-curricular priority is dance.
• Lyrical/Contemporary — Incorporates ballet and jazz technique and interprets song lyrics through movement.
• Tap — Designed to develop rhythm and coordination; teaches how to articulate the feet.
• Hip Hop — Teaches street dance styles such as break dancing, animation, and popping.
• Mommy & Me — 1.5 and above · Listed as a summer class; open for children 1 1/5 and above.
• Ballet/Tap — 5-6
• Jazz / Tap — 6-9
• Jazz & Lyrical/Contemporary
• Turns & Leaps — Listed in summer classes; described as perfect for gymnasts, cheer & poms.

About the provider

Dance Works was founded in 1980 by Kathryn J. Schulte. Its mission is to provide quality dance instruction and dance classes in the Grand Valley and to maintain a safe and nurturing environment for dance students of all ages and levels to thrive and succeed while learning the art of dance. The teachers are described as well-qualified dance instructors with extensive dance experience.

Annual registration fee: $35 per student, $60 per family. The registration fee is non-refundable. Tuition is due the Monday before each term begins. Pay the Fall/Spring Session in full and receive 10% off. Additional family members receive a 75% discount on their total class tuition. Private lesson rates: Solo $40; Duet $60 total; Trio $81 total; Group (4 or more) $90 total. All lessons are 30 minutes. Studio rental rates: $30.00/hour; current students receive $10.00/hour discount.
